Description:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT CEDAR BREAKS NATIONAL MONUMENT:

The intern(s) will assist resource management professionals in monitoring, managing and performing projects on a variety of natural and cultural resources at Cedar Breaks National Monument. Typical projects include re-vegetation, seed collection from native plants, hazard tree removal, monitoring and stabilizing archeological and historic sites, and exotic weed removal. Winter projects will include: setting trail markers for snowmobile trail, performing weekly snowmobile patrols with government official, assist writing grant proposals for future resource work at the monument, and tracking visitor use data. Significant training provided and opportunities to learn and apply these skills in a beautiful outdoor setting.

ALL IIC INTERNSHIPS ARE REQUIRED TO BE TIED TO THE EARNING OF AN ACADEMIC CREDIT. Credits can be EDGE projects, departmental internships, cooperative education, practicums, assignments, research, etc.

Qualifications:

Consideration will be given to applicants that have:

  1. Good communication skills.
  2. Experience with Microsoft Suite.
  3. Knowledge of native plants and local human history
  4. Some experience riding snowmobiles or atv’s.

Consideration will be given to applicants who possess these skills and who are pursuing a degree in fields related to Botany, Biology, History, Archeology, Geology, Hydrology, or Outdoor Recreation.
